Bleary eyed this is morning, but I couldn't miss the Olympic opening ceremony and wow what a spectacle. At the very beginning I was a bit doubtful seeing the residents of the UK being depicted as yokels, but then it just unfolded into a quite amazing three hours of entertainment.
And the procession of the athletes was sheer joy, as they paraded into the stadium country by country their happy faces just radiated the excitement of the event. I was thrilled to see Bradley Wiggins given a central role and Steve Redgrave would have been my number one choice to carry the flame into the stadium, so I was happy to see both of those centre stage. And the idea of bestowing the privilege of lighting the flame on the young athletes of the future was a genius idea. Now I can't wait to see the games unfold and fingers crossed some medals for the UK starting with our very own Mark Cavendish later today.
Now on to our new theme at Allsorts and my lovely teamie Emma would like us to 'Case It' at this week, using one of the cards from her blog as inspiration.
I have gone with the colours and the circle frame, using one of Ruth's images at A Passion for Stamps and paper pieced the Nasturtium. I did a bit of random stamping round the image with good old HA Old French Writing using distress inks. Added some fine cheesecloth, a rose made from sheer ribbon, a string bow and leaves cut from a larger weave cheesecloth and lightly inked.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
I agree it wonderful. Love your card, great colours and textures.

Well like you had to watch the opening with its fantastic climax the passing of the torch to the future was as you say inspired and that cauldron brilliant. Am watching the Eventing dressage now will miss the cross country and maybe the showjumping because if work. Lucky for me I really enjoy the dressage watching these fizzy horses so limber and graceful combined with riders so connected seat and leg. While writing a German rider (Peter Tompsom) has just had a very naughty horse just kicking out a couple of times so nice to see its not just lazy used to be week-end riders like me LOL
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card by the way love the stamped flowers XOXO Zoe
Your paper piecing of the nasturtium is very evocative of the orangey brown tones they can have & I love all the cheesecloth detail - somehow that is a perfect accompaniment to these little cottagey flowers I remember from my childhood. I can see I shall have to investigate the News blogs about the ceremony as we're very much in the dark ages in our house with no TV!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend.

Gorgeous Brenda, that nasturtium image is stunning. Love how you've paper pieced it.
ReplyDeleteI didn't see any of the Olympic opening ceremony but I did think it was a good idea to have seven young future athletes lighting the flame.
Enjoy your weekend.
Take care,

A really gorgeous card Brenda. Love the use of cheesecloth, and how you flowers match the designer paper in the back.
ReplyDeleteI wish I would have planned on watching the olympics opening ceremony now that I read about it here on your blog. We always used to watch the olympics when I was a child, I hardly ever watch tv anymore and so I miss most stuff on TV. Need to figure out what channel it comes here in the US so I can watch some of it!
