An alternative take, snippets and cobwebs

Morning Peeps, a new Allsorts challenge and Sarah would like us to use Design Papers this week with the option of Anything Goes as per usual. Our prize come AALL and Create.

Many thanks for all the get well wishes and encouragement. Improvement continues, I've managed quite an inky week and yesterday afternoon actually drove myself and ventured out for something other than escorted medical trips and fortnightly trip to the village for nails, can't miss that one.

Now I'll confess to a dilemma here, I don't own any DP's, shock horror to many I know. I did have quite a stash accumulated over the years which I looked at, stroked but very rarely used as love to create my own backgrounds. So when my craft room had it's refurb in the Spring decided to donated all to a more deserving home. I do have MCS to fall back on but for this card used what I hope is an acceptable alternative, A&C layer it up washi tape.

But just so I'm not blacklisted from the team here's a project with some 'proper' DP which I found in my files from last year but never blogged.

It's a clock kit with coordinating DP's, flower etc., from Oakwood Archer, one I did for Create and Craft before I made the decision earlier this year to cut back on some DT's. From memory I sprayed the clock frame with Oxides, covered the base with the DP, fixed the clock hands in place and added the flowers and leaves.

There's a new challenge over at the Snippets Playground, after all the fun and excitement of the conker hun and competition I had to sit down so made a card. I think the words would also fit the The Path of Positivity current focus of 'Growth and Change'.

A Kraft card base.....I've a pile of it which I really don't use often enough. Snippets for the flower, two of the circles, birdies and sentiments which were all stamped, cut out and paper pieced. Oxides and are nice and chalky and work well on Kraft, stamps are Flower Trio (924), Quill Ends (908) and Power of the Word (754)). Finally some stamping down the leading edge using the same sets and washi tape.

Always had a fascination with cobwebs so couldn't resist a few photos yesterday when it was misty and frosty with a good display of them in the gardens, particularly spectacular on the Mahonia's.

Have a good weekend everyone, although if weathers like here where it's throwing it down, won't be too much outdoor activity.

  1. I'm sure you will be forgiven for using washi tape in place of DP - this one is so pretty and it was lovely to see that super clock featuring DP even if it was made a while ago. Spectacular cobwebs, love to see them in the garden.

  6. It's fantastic to see you back and crafting again! Your use of A&C layer it up washi tape as a creative alternative to design papers is brilliant. The clock kit with coordinating DP’s from Oakwood Archer is truly unique, and the snippets project aligns beautifully with the 'Growth and Change' theme.

  7. That is some very pretty washi tape and it looks stunning on your card. I absolutely LOVE that clock, my goodness what a lovely creation. I'm fascinated with your photos of the spider webs too. It's always intrigued me how a spider can create them in such a short amount of time. Loving the leaves and squirrel in the previous post too, how perfect for fall. No rain here unfortunately. On a drive to a friend's house yesterday I was shocked to see the reservoir I've driven over on a bridge for decades is completely bone dry now. I'm happy to hear you're feeling well and out and about once again too. Have a wonderful weekend!

  11. So good to hear that you are improving Brenda and that you had a nice productive week including the nail appointment!
Your project are all so beautiful and the washi tape is a great alternative to patterned papers. Glad you got to showcase that pretty clock project too and wonderful creative Snippets Playground entry.
I'm not a fan of spiders although some do fascinate me when found outdoors and especially their webs are really some works of art. These covered in frost are stunning, thank you for sharing! Glad I am not the only one who's a bit fascinate by their webs :)

  13. LOVE your cobweb pictures . . . so pretty.

Your Washi tape card is amazing and I love the ribbon embellishment.

The clock kit is so pretty. Love the colours and floral touches. Gorgeous.

Your final Kraft card is my fave - so thanks for entering it into the Snippets Playground. Lots to look at and interesting to see the Oxides at work on top of Kraft . . . will have to try that out! LOVE Quill ends!

See you up in treehouse after a game of conkers! xxx

  14. 3 great projects Brenda … the build up washi tape is a fab concept and looks really good offset against a die cut frame, and the clock project is really clever. I love the stylised look of the kraft card with the pops of green to offset the black and white.
Great garden pics too … very ethereal cobwebs!
Glad you are recovering well from your op and hope it continues.
Wow no DP’s … I think a lot of us have them from way back when but don’t use them much nowadays … I used to use multiple papers on every project, but now I rarely look at them from one month end to another … but I’m not quite brave enough to get rid even though I could definitely use the space they occupy more productively!! What I really need is more different colouring media, but each time I start a new collection it’s another money pit opens up lol! xx

  17. Your first card is very pretty with the washi tape and that lovely framing. Great use of the clock die too as a gorgeous album cover. The green works so well on the kraft card. I too was inspired by the cobwebs in the garden on a recent make, although I keep walking into them which I hate!

  18. I am glad to hear you are making progress and getting some crafting time. Love how you used that washi tape, it has worked really well. I still have some DP that I never use. I don't buy it anymore, but haven't been able to get rid of it either. Every now and then it can come in handy xx

  19. I am seriously struggling to use up my paper mountain Brenda and don't want to give any away. I did do a clear out a few years back and got rid of some but I now have it spread out in piles on my table and am determined to work my way through them! Your created backgrounds are always amazing so totally understand why you don't need papers. Loving your beautiful creations today. The cobwebs are truly fascinating, especially when there is a frost on them! Brilliant photos.

  20. Wow, oh wow B! You're on the real road to recovery, and that makes me very happy - and delighted to see you being galvanised withing minutes to nip off and buy the PB JOY die! That made me chuckle - a gal after my own heart! A whole range of them in the PB set but this one especially calls out doesn't it. Anyhow, onto your card(s). I always say - do you EVER make a bad one?! Love the washi tape - it's one of my own favourites too. And well beyond my skills, the clock is stunning of course. And, what a delightful snippets card. Rather like Sarn, I'm fascinaated to learn how well Oxides work on Kraft - who knew? Well, you did of course - love the design and how well the green/turquoise colours work again the Kraft - lovely!
    Hugs

  22. Gorgeous cards Brenda, I love all the backgrounds you create. I have far too many DPs and spend more time looking and trying to choose which one to use than I do actually making anything!
Glad to hear your recovery is going well.
